At the Council of Community Services, we believe in celebrating the strength and progress of the people we serve. In this month’s Client Feature, Michael generously shares his experience with our homeless shelter and the support services that helped him find stability.
My name is Michael. I am writing this letter to share my appreciation and gratitude for the Council of Community Services homeless shelter.
On December 1st, I became homeless. I checked into the homeless shelter and was received with open arms. The staff were more than happy to accept me and my husky dog, Nova. The following morning, the front desk staff made swift plans to get me started on a rehousing action plan. That plan included helping me receive food benefits, qualify for Section 8, and find a suitable home.
The shelter provided clean, suitable bedrooms and extra storage for my belongings. The bathrooms were clean and had hot running water for the sinks and showers. They also provided and enforced great hygiene practices. The kitchen area had plenty of food provided by the food pantry to keep me fed and healthy. I cannot express how much these things improved my life and my stay at the shelter as a whole.
The staff were also very knowledgeable about various assistance programs to help with my transition back into society. Time and time again, the staff at the main office and the shelter went above and beyond—not only for me, but for the other residents as well.
I’m very happy to report that I have found a great place to live and now have the resources to help keep me on track as I continue improving my life. Even now, for my aftercare, the staff are still helping me every step of the way to stay successful in our community.
I cannot express my gratitude for the men and women working for the Council of Community Services. Without their help, it would have been impossible to achieve what I have in just four months. I have zero complaints about my time spent living at the shelter, and I would highly recommend anyone to seek their help in getting their life back on track.
Thank you.
Michael’s story is a reminder that with compassion, support, and a clear path forward, recovery and success are possible. We are proud to be a part of his journey, and honored to walk alongside so many others on theirs. Stay tuned for more stories in our Client Features series. Want to help more people like Michael?
