This month, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, our book club is reading The Comfort Book by Matt Haig. Feel free to read along at your own pace. We won’t be hosting any formal discussions, but we always enjoy hearing your thoughts on social media or by email.

Unlike a traditional book, The Comfort Book is a collection of short reflections, lists, and notes centered around mental health, hope, and getting through difficult moments. It’s not something that needs to be read cover to cover. You can open it to any page and find something small but meaningful.

Haig writes from personal experience with anxiety and depression, which gives the book a sense of honesty and relatability. The entries are simple and direct, offering reminders about resilience, perspective, and the importance of small moments of stability.

This month’s pick pairs closely with the work we do every day. Many of the individuals we serve are navigating not just housing instability or food insecurity, but also mental health challenges. Books like this don’t solve those issues, but they can offer a moment of pause, reflection, or comfort along the way.

We hope you’ll join us this month and take a few minutes to engage with something that feels steady and accessible.
